10th annual young engineer's symposium- call for abstracts

The Young Engineers Committee (YEC) of SEAOI is pleased to announce its Tenth Annual Young Engineers Symposium both live in-person and virtually! On January 27th, 2026, all young engineers are invited to attend or present at a symposium geared towards showcasing their work and experiences. This event will be composed of five brief presentations on a variety of topics.

Due to the limited number of presentation time slots, interested young engineers are required to submit an abstract on their proposed topic of presentation to be considered for inclusion in the Symposium.

ABSTRACT DETAILS:

Requirements: Each interested participant will be required to submit an abstract to the Symposium Selection Panel. The abstract should consist of a short-typed summary (500 words or less) detailing the topic of the presentation, key points, and any other information. Abstracts should include three learning objectives summarized in bullet point format at the bottom of the page.

Submission: All interested participants are required to fill out the 2026 Young Engineers Symposium Abstract Submission Form by end of day on December 12, 2025. Individuals may submit a maximum of one abstract.

Abstract Selection: The Symposium Selection Panel will be made of three members of the YEC Board. Starting on December 15, 2025, the panel will review all entry summary pages and select the five abstracts that will be developed into presentations. The panel will select abstracts that are either most unique, interesting, or provide a good balance of topics. Writers of the selected abstracts will be notified by December 19, 2025. They will have until January 26, 2026, to prepare their presentation and send it to yec@seaoi.org.

Suggested Topics: The following are suggested topics that would provide a balanced discussion across different aspects of structural engineering. Feel free to choose other topics.
- Project Profiles (Building / Bridges / Other Infrastructure)
- Special Technical Topics (Tips for Anchoring in Concrete, a Primer into Fatigue Design, etc.)
- Academic Research
- Lessons Learned

PRESENTATION DETAILS:

Duration: Presentations should be approximately 20 minutes in total, with the last 3 to 5 minutes open for audience questions.

December 12, 2025 - Deadline for Submitting Abstracts

December 19, 2025 - Abstract Selection Notification

January 26, 2026 - Deadline to provide presentation slides to SEAOI YEC
