Join us for Rebuilding Together 2025!
SEAOI is proud to partner with the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) for Rebuilding Together, and National Rebuilding Day is quickly approaching! Rebuilding Together is a national organization dedicated to community revitalization where volunteers join forces to fix up homes that have fallen into disrepair due to lack of resources and/or abilities of the homeowners.

On National Rebuilding Day, Saturday, April 26th, we will be joining hundreds of organizations across the city and across the country in “rebuilding” the home of Ms. P, a deserving resident of Maywood, IL. Ms. P has lived in her home for nearly 32 years. A family-owned home, Ms. P’s parents bought it when she was 16 years old. When the home was passed onto her, Ms. P inherited a lovely array of houseplants from her mother, including a rubber plant that is older than her. Just like her parents, Ms. P has a kind nature and is beloved by her community. The home has a deep history that holds a special place in her heart, and she wants nothing more than to keep it a safe and warm place to live.
We have one day to accomplish our work scope and would love your help! Everyone is invited to participate, even if you are inexperienced with home repairs, there will be a project for you to help with. Our work scope may include some of the following repairs:
- Improve visibility of address numbers in front of home.
- Install handrail in front exterior.
- Install handrail on staircase from first to second floor.
- Paint kitchen.
- Repair front and rear exterior storm/security door; repair rear exterior door.
- Repair four steps from the first to second floor.
- Replace door hardware in the first-floor hallway.
- Repair leak in kitchen sink.
- Install lights on side exterior.
- Add new GFCI outlets in kitchen.
- Remove clutter throughout the home.
Volunteers will need to carpool and/or provide their own transportation. To respect the homeowner’s privacy, the exact address of the home will be emailed out before the event to those who sign up. Lunch will be provided and all volunteers will receive a Rebuilding Together t-shirt when they arrive to wear on National Rebuilding Day.
Family members, friends, and significant others are welcome to join on National Rebuilding Day, but ALL VOLUNTEERS must be registered with both Rebuilding Together Metro Chicago (RTMC) and SEAOI by April 1st, 2025. Please complete the volunteer registration steps to ensure you receive a lunch and t-shirt of the correct size:
- Register with SEAOI through this event page
- Register with RTMC through the Volunteer Organization page
- Under “AISC/SEAOI NRD2025”, click “sign up”
- Enter the requested information to complete registration as a general volunteer with RTMC.
