SEAOI is pleased to announce a one-day seminar on masonry engineering and construction. This hands-on class will incorporate demonstrations along with design theory with examples and lessons learned case studies. Attendees will review mock-ups and participate in the construction of sample masonry walls. The event will take place at IMI’s facilities in Addison. Attendees should wear casual clothes.
The presenters will include Jeff Diqui, Director of Industry development and Technical Services, International Masonry Institute, Sam Rubenzer, Structural Engineer, Owner at FORSE Consulting, LLC, and Cathleen Jacinto, Structural Engineer at FORSE Consulting. They each have extensive experience in the design and evaluation of masonry structures and code development for new and existing construction.
This course will provide 7.5 hours of CE credit.

About the Presenters
Samuel Rubenzer, PE, SE, & MBA has 18 years of experience in structural engineering. Early in his career, he worked as a structural engineer for design firms in Minnesota and Wisconsin, and spent 5 years at RAM International and Bentley Systems providing training to structural engineers on how to use structural software programs and design tools. Sam started FORSE Consulting in January of 2010 and continues to assist fellow structural engineers with designs on a variety of projects, building types, and uses of software programs from Bentley, RISA, TEKLA, IES, SCIA, and others. Sam has also been the structural engineering consultant to the Wisconsin Structural Masonry Coalition since 2010. Sam is an expert in structural software programs and has been a speaker at several national structural engineering conferences on the use of software programs for the industry. Sam has a Master of Business Administration from Marquette University and a Bachelor of Civil Engineering from the University of Minnesota. Sam is a licensed Structural Engineer (SE) in the state of Illinois and a Professional Engineer (PE) in many of the Midwestern states.
Jeff Diqui holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Architectural Engineering with a major in Structural
Engineering from Milwaukee School of Engineering. He has more than 25 years of experience that has
been focused on the building enclosure. Experience has included forensic investigations related to
moisture intrusion and structural related problems, structural design, building condition assessments,
development of repair / rehabilitation designs, and construction observations. For over a decade, Jeff
has been a frequent lecturer nationally to architects, engineers, specifiers, building envelope consultants,
contractors, and code officials on subject matter pertaining to the importance of maintaining continuity
of air, water, vapor, and thermal controls of the enclosure and the ever-important interface detail. Jeff is
actively involved with the building science and architectural / engineering professions. He is Program
Director for the Building Enclosure Council (BEC) - Chicago Chapter, Technical Roundtable Committee
Member of the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) - Chicago Chapter, and Terminations & Flashings
Committee Member of the Air Barrier Association of America (ABAA).
Cathleen Jacinto, PE, SE has 17 years of experience in the design industry as a structural engineer. A seasoned project manager, Cathleen collaborated on a variety of building design projects while at Thornton Tomasetti and T.Y. Lin International in Chicago, Illinois. Her resume includes small to large-scale project types in healthcare, aviation, commercial, infrastructure, cultural, and steel connection design located in the U.S. and abroad.
Since joining FORSE in May 2015, Cathleen provides structural engineering design and modeling services in collaboration with other structural engineering firms. Her solid knowledge base of various building materials, including steel, masonry, concrete, and wood contributes to FORSE’s designs, seminars, and publications. She serves as a technical consultant to the Illinois Structural Masonry Coalition. One topic Cathleen highlights is structural masonry analysis and design. Cathleen has a Professional Masters in Structural Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology and a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. She is a licensed Structural Engineer (SE) and Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Illinois.
