STEPS TO OBTAIN ILLINOIS S.E. LICENSE
1 Qualify for Examination 2 Apply for Examination 3 Renew License
Before you can apply to take the Illinois SE Exam, you must qualify by providing documentation of your education and work experience. You must also pass the Fundamentals of Engineering exam (you may take the SE and FE at the same time). After your application for qualification is approved, you will be allowed to apply to take the examination. Next, you need to complete an application to take the SE Exam and submit it to IDFPR. The application requires you submit your education transcripts and a verification of employment. The SE exam consists of 2 tests, Structure 1 and Structure 2, which both must be passed to receive your SE license. Scoring is Pass/Fail and you will not know your score. Every 2 years, following the receipt of your license, you must complete 30 hours of Continuing Education credits. You are not required to submit documentation of completion unless you are audited, but audits can be requested at random. See the opportunities above for more information on continuing education events.
