The Structural Engineers Association of Illinois
is pleased to announce the 5th Annual
Structures Symposium on
October 28, 2015.
Geoffrey Baer , host of WTTW programming will give the keynote presentation -
CHICAGO'S UNSUNG ENGINEERING HEROES - at this full-day event.
Chicago is widely celebrated as Americaís greatest city of architecture. But without the engineers, the architecture would never get off the drawing board. And without a mind-boggling array of civil engineering projects, this swampy frontier outpost would never have been suitable for city building in the first place.
In this talk, popular public TV host and writer Geoffrey Baer of WTTW goes behind the architecture to talk about the amazing engineering (and the amazing engineers!) that made Chicago possible. Mr. Baer will talk about how he makes the sometimes esoteric subject of engineering accessible to his wide TV audience through engaging stories; from raising the city out of the mud and reversing the river, to the invention of the structural system that made the skyscraper possible.
Multiple Emmy award-winning Public Television writer, producer and program host Geoffrey Baer is known for his masterful storytelling, conversational style, and contagious enthusiasm.
