2015 Excellence in Structural Engineering Awards

The Structural Engineers Association of Illinois announces its Excellence in Structural Engineering Awards Program for 2015, the thirty-sixth annual awards event conducted by the association.

Thanks to the generosity of SEAOI past-President Bill Lavicka and his wife Alys, SEAOI is proud to offer the Lavicka Award, which is named in their honor. Projects in this category are those costing below $1 million. With this award category, SEAOI looks to promote smaller projects which represent outstanding structural design.

The finalists have been selected!  Join us at the  May Dinner Meeting on May 5, 2015 for their presentations.

SEAOI 50th Anniversary

Fifty Significant Structures in Fifty Years
SEAOI is asking the design community to nominate significant projects designed by SEAOI members over the last 50 years. Projects can be new construction or structural renovations. Buildings, bridges, industrial and special structures are all eligible. The project need not be located in Illinois, or even the US, but the Structural Engineer must be/have been an SEAOI member.

Nominations are now closed. All submissions will be reviewed and fifty projects will be selected. The list of selected projects will be announced in mid-2015.

Dinner Meetings

In honor of the 50th anniversary of SEAOI, the Dinner Meeting topics for 2014-2015 will be dedicated to a significant project from each decade of SEAOI's history.

In October, the presentation covered the history and restoration of Marina City (1960s). The Clark Bridge in Alton, IL (1990s) was the focus of the December meeting. January's presentation was on the Adaptive Re-Use of Solider Field (2000s).

The February meeting featured the John Hancock building (1970s). The series concludes in March with a presentation on innovative structures of the 1980s, including the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, 900 N. Michigan, and 100 N. Riverside.
