SEAOI COMMITTEES
Committees are the backbone of SEAOI and serve an important role in the development of the profession by the tasks they perform. We can always use more people to help out on our committees and it doesn't matter if you have 0 or 30 years experience.  If you are interested in getting involved, then email the Executive Director, Elizabeth O'Connor, at eoconnor@seaoi.org. Below are standing, ad-hoc, and affiliate committees, a brief description of each, and their respective chairs.
ANNUAL MEETING AWARDS BUILDING CODES

The Annual Meeting Committee's primary duty is to plan the annual banquet. This includes setting date, venue, and all announcements and mailings in conjunction with the banquet event. The Awards Committee prepares, publicizes, and distributes information allowing firms to participate in the Association's engineering excellence awards. This includes evaluation of submitted projects, selection of final participants, setting up impartial judging and establishing new awards as the situation requires. The Building Codes Committee makes recommendations for incorporating new developments in various aspects of the design of structures in the codes and specifications used in the practice of structural engineering.
BY-LAWS GOVERNMENT RELATIONS MEMBERSHIP

By-Laws Committee recommends changes in the by-laws of the Association as the need arises. The Government Relations Committee reviews conditions or events relating to the Structural Engineering Act and makes recommendations on actions to ensure the integrity of the act and healthy viability of the profession. Action may be required by legislation dictated by the state of circumstances in the engineering community. The Membership Committee encourages those in the practice of structural engineering and allied professions to become members of the association for the purpose of advancing the profession. In addition, it maintains a membership list and publishes the SEAOI membership directory.
NOMINATING PROGRAM AND DINNER MEETINGS PUBLIC RELATIONS

The Nominating Committee prepares a list of nominees of officers and board of directors for the annual election. Program Committee plans programs, meetings, seminars, and breakfast forums on various timely topics. The committee is divided into several subcommittees and it is through their judgment that events or topics are selected to promote the advancement of professional knowledge of the members Public Relations serves as a liaison between the profession and the public, as well as the media to initiate activities that make structural engineering more viable and appreciated by the public.
PUBLICATIONS STRUCTURAL ENGINEER EXAM YOUNG ENGINEERS

Publications collects appropriate news and material for inclusion in the Bulletin (the official publication of SEAOI). This includes editing, printing, and distributing the publication to members as well as other interested parties. The Examination Committee reports to the board any changes in the rules governing the administration of the Illinois Structural Engineering Act, to report changes in the examination and to encourage practicing engineers to participate in the preparation of the examination problems. The Young Members Forum encourages young engineers to join the association as an associate member. It also provides guidance in preparing for the state license examination.
AUDIT CENTRAL ILLINOIS CHAPTER WEBSITE

Audits the treasure's records at the end of the fiscal year and reports the findings to the Board. This committee is chaired by the incoming Treasurer.
CONTINUING EDUCATION DISASTER RESPONSE ENGINEERS WEEK

  A committee formed to prepare and train engineers to be of service in a mass public disaster such as an earthquake or hurricane. It also makes available to the media and public engineers versed in the analysis and evaluation of structures in response to such events.
EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE TRADE SHOW LONG RANGE PLANNING

Chaired by the current President and made up of officers, the Immediate Past President, and the Executive Director as an ex officio member, this committee is called when action is necessary by the Board of Directors between the regularly scheduled Board meetings. The Trade Show committee is responsible for scheduling and arranging an annual exposition at which vendors with products or services of benefit to the structural engineering community can present and display their products.
STRUCTURAL ENGINEERS POLITICAL ACTION COMMITTEE (SEPAC) STRUCTURAL ENGINEERS FOUNDATION (SEF) NCSEA REPRESENTATIVE

Monitors state legislative activity that impacts the Structural Engineering Act and the profession and assists legislators in deciding on issues important to Structural Engineers. This affiliated organization exist to advance the profession of structural engineering by providing support for the purely educational, research, and technical activities of SEAOI. Specifically, the SEF will endeavor to supply financial support, in response to worthy proposal for such support.
